New Norwegian Kroner notes

Since last May 30 there are two new Norwegian Krona banknotes in circulation. We tell you a little more about these new notes.

Norwegian Kroner notes

The Norwegian Krona has been the official currency of Norway since 1914 and since then several series of banknotes have been issued with different designs and security measures.

To date the Norwegian Kroner notes are 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 Kroner. Since May 30, two new note of a new series have been put into circulation: 100 and 200 Kroner.

At the moment the old and new notes will be valid until May 30, 2018 when the old notes will be withdrawn from circulation.

New series

These new banknotes have a new design with improvements in security measures to prevent counterfeiting.

The new design leaves behind the illustrious Norwegian characters of the previous series to replace them with iconic images of the country. Thus in the new tickets of 100 and 200 Kroner appear the viking ship Gokstad and a salmon respectively. The other denominations of 50, 500 and 1000 Kroner will have the Utvaer Lighthouse, the rescue boat RS 14 "Stavanger" and the image of some waves in open sea respectively.

The other denominations are expected to be issued in the coming years.
