Villajoyosas´s Moors and Christians tradition

Moors and Christians is one of the oldest and biggest traditions in many Spanish towns. Some of those traditions are more than 250 years old, like the one we are going to focus on today. We are talking about Villajoyosa´s celebrations.

Believe it or not Villajoyosa´s Moors and Chistians celebration are in a saint´s honor, Saint Martha. The tradition says that, back in 1538, when the moors pirates where about to conquer the town, Saint Martha helped by causing a flood that destroyed all the moor´s vessels.

The celebrations will take over the whole week with plenty parades. Moors on one side, Christians on the other. And this is just for the show, but during that time the whole city will take the streets. Music and food all around to enjoy the summer and the celebrations with family, friends and thousands of visitors that come to the city to enjoy the show.
